Chloe gets herself plugged in and enters the online world of Aevil Earth for the first time to find out what happened to her sister. She discovers something quite unexpected.
EXCERPT
It had been two months since Amy MacArthur had died. Still no one could tell Chloe how it had happened. The last she’d heard from her parents was that the police were treating it as unexplained but not suspicious. All anyone knew for sure was that she’d been wearing her Jack and, presumably, had been immersed in Aevil Earth, the only game Chloe knew she played.
And Amy had played it a lot. It was all she could talk about whenever they met. Amy had joined a guild of clerics or priests or something and had been earning real money running tasks for someone apparently very powerful in the game. Chloe had been astonished to learn that people could earn enough money playing a game to support themselves in the real world, but apparently this was a common source of income. Her older sister had been living quite comfortably off of her virtual employment.
And now she was dead. No signs of trauma. No investigation. Chloe had become convinced that something had happened in Aevil Earth and that someone inside that world had information that would help her find some closure. Perhaps there was even someone to blame. If the police wouldn’t do anything about it she would.
So she had fitted herself with an Immersion Jack. And her investigation would begin tonight.
